Policies & Client Rights

Policies & Client Rights

Clear information. No surprises.

Your privacy, rights, costs, access to care, and expectations should be understandable before therapy begins.

Therapy involves trust. That includes knowing how the practice operates.

Your rights matter

You should know what to expect before you become a client.

This page provides an overview of important policies, client rights, telehealth practices, accessibility, fees, Good Faith Estimate information, referrals, and emergency resources at Christensen Mental Health.

Some topics may also have separate formal policies or notices. When a separate document applies, a link will be provided.

If you have questions about any practice policy, please contact Christensen Mental Health before treatment begins.

Privacy & Confidentiality

Your information is treated as confidential.

Christensen Mental Health is committed to protecting client privacy and maintaining the confidentiality of information obtained in connection with therapy services, subject to applicable federal and Florida law.

Information may be disclosed when authorized by the client or when disclosure is permitted or required by law. Specific limitations of confidentiality and privacy practices are reviewed as part of informed consent.

Email and standard text messaging may not always be secure. Clients should avoid sending highly sensitive clinical information through ordinary email or text whenever a secure method is available.

Important: This website does not create a therapist-client relationship. Submitting a contact request, email, or message does not establish a clinical relationship until intake, consent, and acceptance into services have occurred.

Christensen Mental Health maintains separate public notices for privacy: the Notice of Privacy Practices and the Website Privacy Policy.

Client Rights

You have the right to understand and participate in your treatment.

Clients are encouraged to ask questions, discuss concerns, and participate in decisions about their therapy.

Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, client rights may include the ability to:

  • Receive information about the nature and purpose of services.
  • Ask questions about treatment recommendations and therapeutic approaches.
  • Receive information about fees and financial policies before treatment.
  • Participate in treatment planning and goal development.
  • Discuss concerns about services or the therapeutic relationship.
  • Request referrals when another provider or level of care may be more appropriate.
  • End therapy, subject to appropriate clinical transition and safety considerations.
  • Receive services without unlawful discrimination.

Accessibility & Accommodations

Accessibility needs can be discussed before services begin.

Christensen Mental Health is committed to providing accessible telehealth services to individuals with disabilities.

Clients who are blind, have low vision, are deaf, or are hard of hearing may use their existing assistive technology, accessibility tools, communication supports, or other accommodations when accessing services.

Examples may include screen-reading technology, screen enlargement, captions, hearing-related technology, keyboard navigation, or other client-provided accessibility tools.

If additional reasonable accommodations are needed to participate in telehealth services or communicate with Christensen Mental Health, clients are encouraged to contact the practice in advance so available options can be discussed.

Christensen Mental Health does not assume that one accommodation works for every person. Accessibility needs are individual. Clients may discuss what tools or accommodations they already use and whether additional support may be appropriate.

Telehealth Services

Your physical location matters during a therapy session.

Christensen Mental Health provides psychotherapy through secure telehealth.

Bonnie Christensen, LMHC provides therapy to clients who are physically located in Florida at the time the therapy service is provided.

Clients are responsible for attending sessions from a reasonably private location with reliable internet access and an appropriate device for video communication.

Location pages on this website describe communities served through telehealth. They do not represent physical Christensen Mental Health offices in those cities unless specifically stated otherwise.

Telehealth may not be appropriate for every clinical situation. If telehealth is not clinically appropriate for a client’s needs, other treatment options or referrals may be discussed.

Appropriate Care & Referrals

Not every client or clinical need is appropriate for this practice.

Christensen Mental Health provides outpatient psychotherapy through telehealth.

If a client’s needs fall outside the scope of this practice, require a higher level of care, or would be better addressed by another provider or specialty service, appropriate referral options may be recommended.

This may include situations in which emergency, inpatient, psychiatric, medical, substance-use, specialized trauma, psychological testing, or another form of care is more clinically appropriate.

A referral recommendation is intended to help connect the client with care that more closely matches their needs.

Appropriate care matters more than keeping someone in a service that is not the right fit.

Fees & Insurance

Know the expected cost before you begin.

Current private-pay fees for individual therapy are:

Individual Therapy 50-minute session
$175

Christensen Mental Health may accept certain insurance plans for eligible Florida clients. Coverage depends on the client’s individual plan, network status, deductible, copay, coinsurance, telehealth benefits, and other plan requirements.

Insurance verification is not a guarantee of payment. The client remains responsible for charges not paid by the insurance plan according to the practice’s financial policies and applicable agreements.
